This document describes how a News/Blog Crumbs area works when being displayed on a content managed web page within the TOTECS platform. This area is used to help the user navigate back through the news/blog items, groups, and categories associated with the news/blog data structures.

Area Overview
The News/Blog Crumbs area allows guests and/or logged-in users who can view a content managed web site to have the ability to list a single news/blog item, news/blog group, and news group category, based on if a user is viewing either of those when the web page is loaded. Using this area the user can navigate through the levels of the news/blog structure. The "crumbs" refers to to user being able to see the names of the web pages that the user has navigated through, just like how Hansel and Gretel left crumbs behind so that they knew where they walked from.
For example If a user is viewing news/blog item comments on the web page, then this area will display the news/blog item related to the comments, as well as its news/blog group, and its news group category. This in effect allows the user to navigate back up levels of the news/blog data structure.
Area Formats
The area contains the following formats:
News/Blogs Group Crumb
The format displays once within the area if a news/blog group has its ID set within the web page's URL, or a news/blog item has its ID set in the URL. The format can display the name of the category associated with the news/blog group, as well as details of the news/blog group.
News/Blog Item Crumb
The format displays once within the area after the News/Blogs Group Format if a news/blog item has its ID set within the web page's URL. This format can display the details of the news/blog item.

Area Settings
Below are the following settings that can be configured through the area's editor when modifying the area in the Web Page Editor, within the Administration Centre.

| Select page for home link: | Set the content managed web page that the home link hook within the News/Blogs Group Crumb format will navigate the user back to. |
| Select Page for News Group Link: | Set the content managed web page that the news group link hook within the News/Blogs Group Crumb format will navigate the user back to. |
| Select page for news/blog item link: | Set the content managed web page that the news/blog item link hook within the News/Blogs Item Crumb format will navigate the user back to. |
Dependent Configurations
- For this area to display, either the ID of the news/blog group or the ID of the news/blog item must be embedded within the web page's URL.
- For the area to display the News/Blog Item Crumb format, the news item must be set as active. This can be configured within the Administration Centre's News/Blogs interface when modifying the details of a news/blog item.
Recommendations
- Place this area on a content managed web page with a News/Blog Item area to allow the user to view the details of the news/blog item, as well as navigate back to the news/blog group that it belongs to.
